Douglas County Surveyors Office has been collecting and distributing digital data since the late
1990's. With the rising costs of doing business we are all looking for ways to streamline our work practices.
In 1997, the Oregon legislature passed the Digital Signature Act, Chapter 192.825 to 192.855. The
Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying (OSBEELS) adopted the new Oregon Administrative Rules on July 8th, 2008 and filed it with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Archives Division making it effective on July 9, 2008.
With the passing of this bill and the availability of new technology we are ready to develop a
process that will allow us to submit surveys for review and filing in digital format with digital signatures.
What is a Digital Signature?
How
do you obtain a digital Signature?
We will begin this process with allowing surveyors to submit all maps digitally for the review process.
We will require a stamped mylar with a wet signature by mail or in person when filing the final mylar.
This process will be a learning experience for all. We will work together to build ever expanding services until we reach our final
goal of filing digital maps with digital signatures.
