THE POSITION:
This position exists to perform basic/manual library related clerical
duties at the Sutherlin Branch of the Douglas County Library System.
Essential functions: Check books in and out and register new
borrowers for library cards. Collect money for library fees and
correctly make change. Assist patrons in person and by telephone,
recommend & locate materials for patrons; answer reference questions;
and search and locate items requested on the computer’s “Send Item”
list. Develop and maintain effective community relations. Shelve
library materials by alpha/numeric sequence. Operate computer terminal
to perform circulation and catalog searching procedures. Present
preschool storytimes and children’s programming. Requires regular and
consistent attendance. Marginal functions: File, empty the book
drop, compile statistical data and prepare reports. May occasionally
serve as person in charge in the absence of the branch librarian.
STARTING SALARY:
$9.16 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years work-related support experience or a satisfactory equivalent
combination of education, experience and training.
In addition, applications
will receive further evaluation based on reasonable knowledge
of general office practices and procedures; reasonable knowledge of
systematic filing and retrieval processes or systems relating to a
library; reasonable knowledge of English composition, spelling, grammar
and arithmetic; basic knowledge of general recordkeeping and bookkeeping
processes. Skill in typing accurately; skill in
the use of office equipment, including automated equipment.
Ability to: Communicate effectively in both oral and
written forms; estimate and manage time efficiently; plan moderately
complex statements and reports; establish and maintain records, reports
and statistical data; courteously meet and deal effectively with other
employees and the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office environment and
may require bending, color identification, gripping with hands and
fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling,
frequently lifting and carrying up to 34 pounds, infrequently operating
passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing,
standing for long periods and walking.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:
To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions,
employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a
post-offer medical exam; conducted at county expense.
DRIVING RECORD:
Applicants selected for interview will be required to bring to the
interview a Court Print driving history obtained from the DMV.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND
INVESTIGATION: Finalist must undergo and successfully complete a
thorough background investigation including a criminal history check
through the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS)
EXAMINATION:
A brief examination (approximately 10 minutes) will be administered by
the Human Resources Department at the time the completed application is
