THE
POSITION:
Positions are part-time or full-time temporary, and work schedules are
based on the needs of the individual client(s) assigned. Under the
direction of a Mental Health Specialist 3 / 4 or Mental Health Case
Manger, and adhering to well-defined goals and expectations, employees
will meet clients and/or their guardians in the home or designated
location, to provide assistance in life skills, such as relationship
skills, coaching parents/caregivers, developing schedules for
medication, eating, bathing, attending appointments; may transport
client to necessary appointments. Essential Functions: Direct
assistance provided to clients who have a covered mental heath diagnosis
as prescribed and pre-approved by designated Mental Health staff; assist
clients to identify personal strengths and set treatment goals; crisis
prevention/intervention; symptom management; general skills training
both in individual and family group; complete and submit progress notes,
record keeping, correspondence and interagency liaison activities on
behalf of assigned clients; attend staff meetings; participate in
clinical stuffing’s and training. Requires reliable and consistent
attendance. Marginal Functions: Attend unit and individual
supervisory meetings, training workshops or conferences as required to
stay current on treatment/rehabilitation strategies for clients; travel
to clients’ homes, other agencies.
SALARY
RANGE:
$14.62 - $19.27/hour (Mental Health Specialist 1); $16.40 - $21.64/hour (Mental Health Specialist 2)
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
MHS1 & 2: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work science
plus two years of experience in a mental health setting OR a
satisfactory equivalence of education, experience and training. At
time of appointment must posses a valid Oregon Driver’s License.
In addition,
applications will be reviewed based on the following: Considerable
knowledge of social service theory, practices and procedures to be
able to identify a problem, decide on an appropriate action, and provide
indicated services; considerable knowledge of human behavior as it
relates to crisis situations and problems of client population;
reasonable knowledge of laws relating to mental health; skill in
developing relationships and listening techniques and principles;
ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral form;
coordinate with families of clients and the community; participate in
diagnostic and treatment conferences within an inter-disciplinary team;
work with and relate to a diverse population of people with mental and
physical handicaps; work independently, efficiently organize time and
meet established deadlines; remain calm and use good judgment during
confrontational or high pressure situations; make decisions
independently in accordance with established policies and procedures and
use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities;
teach socialization and living skills to individuals with various
learning levels; courteously meet and deal effectively with other
employees, clients, families, schools, service agencies, service
providers, physicians, professionals, team and committee members and the
public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in the clients homes, an office environment,
residential living setting, schools, and in the field with possible
exposures to dampness, bee stings, dust or pollen, noxious odors,
outside temp. extremes, smoke, sun noisy work areas, confined spaces,
crowded areas and remote areas. May involve bending color
identification, crawling, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing
alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, lifting up to 60
pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, reaching,
running, sitting, standing long periods, walking on rough terrain.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:
Offer of employment is contingent upon final
candidate successfully completing pre-employment chemical detection
screen. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential
functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of
a post-offer medical exam; conducted at county expense.
DRIVING
RECORD:
Applicants selected for interview will be required to bring to the
interview a recent Court Print driving history obtained from the DMV.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK:
Finalists for this position will be made an offer of employment,
contingent upon passing a full criminal offender record check in
accordance with guidelines outlined in ORS 181.536-537. A disqualifying
event, as defined in OAR Chapter 411, Division 009, determined by the
State of Oregon, will result in denial or termination of employment.
