THE POSITION:
This public health nursing position works within the Public Health
Division’s Babies First and Maternity Case Management Program.
Essential Functions: Works closely with pregnant women and children;
assists in the initial assessment of a pregnant woman’s risk factors;
works with the mother in developing a case plan specific to their
individual needs; follows the infant through age 3, providing
anticipatory guidance, education, interventions and referrals when
necessary. Requires regular and consistent attendance.
STARTING SALARY:
$18.44 per hour, plus generous benefit package including OPSRP
retirement.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: Must
possess, at time of appointment, a valid Oregon Registered Nurse
License, and an Oregon Driver’s License. Preference will be given for a
Bachelor’s degree in nursing with coursework emphasis in public health
and one-year progressively responsible work experience in a public
health setting.
In addition to the above, applications
will receive further evaluation based on the following: Considerable
knowledge of professional nursing theories, principles,
practices, and procedures as applied to community health nursing
services; knowledge and skills for child development and nursing related
diagnosis, accurate skill in heights, weights and plotting on
appropriate growth grids; knowledge and experience in Maternal Child
Health, Prenatal care and education; nursing knowledge and skills of
immunization practices, laws, and administration; knowledge of community
resources; skill with computers to be utilized in the
documentation of nursing visit activities and work schedule
coordination; ability to communicate effectively in both
oral and written forms to provide client education in the most
appropriate method; ability to work within established systems and
guidelines; ability to use initiative and judgment in carrying out
tasks and responsibilities; conduct research and to compile and analyze
data; utilize problem identification and resolution techniques ability
to be flexible and adapt to work in other Community Health clinics
(Communicable Diseases, Prolixan, Flu, and Family Planning); remain calm
and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure
situations; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees,
clients and families, employees, Health Officer, physicians, community
agencies, schools and public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a variety of office, clinic and home settings
requiring bending, color identification, gripping with hands and
fingers, hearing voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, occasionally
lifting/carrying up to 60 pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling,
pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, standing long periods, and
walking. Considerable driving is required, frequent travel for home
visits, to other clinics or offices, and off-site trainings. There is
exposure to outside temperature extremes and noisy work areas; requires
wearing rubber or plastic gloves, and working in confined/crowded remote
areas.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment
chemical detection screen. To determine if physically qualified to
perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon
satisfactory results of a post-offer medical exam; conducted at county
expense.
DRIVING RECORD:
Applicants selected for interview will be required to bring to the
interview a Court Print driving history obtained from the DMV. Please
allow 5-7 days for delivery, 2-3 weeks for out of state.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK:
According to ORS 181-536 to .537, the final candidate considered for
this position is subject to a full criminal offender record check. A
disqualifying event, as defined by OAR Chapter 411 Division 009, and
determined by the State of Oregon, will result in denial or termination
