INTRODUCTION
This classification
performs duties related to driving a van or cut-away bus on established routes,
demand response service transporting individuals to various destinations, or
perform contract transportation services.
EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties assigned to this classification include, but are
not limited to, the following examples. Any one position may not perform all
listed tasks.)
1. Transport
public, senior citizens and special needs individuals on designated routes.
Collect rider fees, maintain transportation records, and prepare and submit
transportation reports, as required or requested.
2. Transport
public, senior citizens and special needs individuals to and from medical,
business, shopping, dining sites, and social service activities, providing
assistance to passengers as necessary. Collect rider fees, maintain
transportation records, and prepare and submit transportation reports, as
required or requested.
3. Transport
individuals, including special needs persons, per service contracts,
maintaining records and preparing and submitting reports, as required or
requested.
4. Wash, clean, and
fuel vans or buses, conducting daily safety pre-trips and post-trips (safety
inspections and maintenance checks), reporting problems as requested or
required.
5. Coordinate with
co-workers, departmental and agency personnel in obtaining and providing
information such as schedules, directions, and vehicle maintenance, as well
as required or requested records and reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and
ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THIS POSITION
Knowledge of: Basic
knowledge of vehicular safety and defensive driving. Ability to: Communicate in both
oral and written form; understanding the needs and concerns of the public,
especially seniors and special needs persons, maintain records and prepare
reports, work within established departmental policy and procedures and approved
safety standards, mange time efficiently, courteously meet and deal effectively
with other employees, senior citizens, special needs individuals and the general
public.
Education, Experience and Training:
Any combination of driving experience and training which provides the necessary
knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position. At the time
of appointment, must possess and maintain current and valid: (1) Oregon
commercial driver's license (any class), with passenger endorsement; (2) medical
card, in accordance with all applicable, local, state, and federal statues.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OF THIS
POSITION
This classification works with immediate
supervision from the Program Coordinator who assigns work, sets goals and review
work. Work is performed in accordance with established guidelines and/or
procedures. Assignments are given with specific instructions or are routine so
that few deviations from established practices are made without checking with
supervisor. Work is spot checked in progress or at completion.
GUIDELINES
Work is performed within established
departmental policy and procedures and DOT rules and regulations. Written and
oral guidelines are specific and closely followed. Some driver discretion is
required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK
ENVIRONMENT
Regular and consistent attendance is required.
Work is performed in a van or bus transporting the general public, including
seniors and special needs persons, and may involve bending, gripping with hands
and fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversations, lifting up to 60 pounds,
pulling, pushing, and reaching. A considerable amount of driving is required. |
