SEASONAL PARK
MAINTENANCE WORKER

INTRODUCTION
This
classification
provides direct
services to the
public to
accommodate the
recreational
needs of users
of the County
park system with
an emphasis on
performing
maintenance
duties; may
assist park
maintenance
technician, as
needed.
EXAMPLES OF
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties assigned
to this
classification
include, but are
not limited to,
the following
examples. Any
one position may
not perform all
listed tasks.)
1. Perform
general
maintenance of
park facilities,
grounds, and
equipment;
includes: daily
cleaning of
restrooms and
wading pools,
restock
supplies;
cleaning of
other building,
fire pits,
picnic tables;
unclog drains;
general grounds
upkeep; take
trash to
disposal site;
irrigate, weed,
and mow;
shoreline
maintenance at
reservoirs.
2. Perform
structural
maintenance and
repair on park
buildings and
facilities
including rough,
framing and
finish
carpentry.
3. Perform
minor
maintenance and
repair on
equipment and
machinery.
4. Provide
grounds-keeping
and landscaping
duties such as
planting,
cultivating,
mowing,
fertilizing,
spraying,
pruning,
vacuuming and/or
blowing grass
and leaves.
5. Operate a
broad range of
hand power tools
and light to
medium
equipment;
provide basic
maintenance on
hand tool
equipment.
6. Provide
assistance to
park visitors,
which includes:
recreational
information,
assist with
problems,
deliver
messages,
maintain
information
center.
7. Provide
corrective and
preventative
maintenance on
park facilities
and grounds to
include
automated and
manual
irrigation
systems,
domestic water
delivery systems
and low voltage
electrical
systems.
8. Register
vehicles and
visitors
entering the
park, collect
fee, issue
permit.
Maintain
appropriate
revenue
recordkeeping;
either deposit
monies in bank
or deliver to
park
headquarters.
9. Monitor
park/recreational
site areas,
reminding users
of department
rules and
regulations;
ensure users
depart areas
prior to
closing/lock up
time. May
assist during
special events.

equipment and

power tools,
including pickup
trucks, garbage
trucks, utility
trailers, riding
and push mowers,
weed eaters, and
hedge trimmers.

and resolution
techniques;
remain calm and

visitors

Education,
experience and
training:
One year public
contact experience
and/or customer
service work or
any combination of
education,
coursework,
experience, and
training in
recreation, parks,
mobile home parks,
grounds
maintenance,
building
maintenance or
store management
which would
provide required
knowledge, skills,
and abilities
necessary to
perform the duties
of the position.
At time of
appointment, must
possess an Oregon
driver's license.
SUPERVISORY
CONTROLS OF THIS
POSITION
Work is performed
with supervision
from the Park
Maintenance
Foreman, with
direction from the
Operations
Manager. Employee
uses initiative
and judgment in
completing routine
assignments and
interpretation of
general
administrative or
operational
policies and
procedures is
sometimes
necessary.
Significant
deviations require
prior approval.
Work is checked at
completion of
projects. Does
not work in
proximity of
supervisor.
GUIDELINES
Work is performed
within established
park policy and
procedure, grounds
and building
maintenance
reference
materials,
cleaning product
reference
materials and
equipment
manuals. Employee
uses judgment in
interpreting
policy and
enforcing park
regulations to
determine
appropriate
procedure when
dealing with park
users.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
AND WORK
ENVIRONMENT
Regular and consistent attendance is required.
Work is performed
primarily in a
park environment;
may require
bending, gripping
with hands and
fingers, hearing
voice
conversation,
lifting up to 60
pounds, operating
power tools and
equipment,
pulling, pushing,
reaching standing
and walking. Work
is performed in an
environment which
involves everyday
risks or
discomforts and
sometimes adverse
weather
conditions. A
reasonable amount
of driving is
