Pay Range GC 08


This classification provides direct services to the public to accommodate the recreational needs of users of the County park system; provide basic care of assigned park.


(Duties assigned to this classification include, but are not limited to, the following examples. Any one position may not perform all listed tasks.)

l. Register vehicles and visitors entering the park, collect fee, issue permit. Maintain appropriate revenue recordkeeping; either deposit monies in bank or deliver to park headquarters.

2. Provide assistance to park visitors, which includes: recreational information, assist with problems, deliver messages, maintain information center.

3. Patrol park/recreational site area; remind users of department policy and procedures; assure all users have left area before closing/lock up time.

4. Perform general maintenance of park facilities, grounds, and equipment; includes: daily cleaning of restrooms and wading pools, restock supplies; cleaning of other building, fire pits, picnic tables; unclog drains; general grounds upkeep; take trash to disposal site; irrigate, weed, and mow; shoreline maintenance at reservoirs.

5. Provide basic maintenance to hand tool equipment.


Knowledge of: Basic knowledge of grounds and building maintenance methods, principles, practices, equipment and materials as applied to caretaking areas; basic knowledge of money handling and recording. Ability and skill to: Safely operate appropriate power tools and equipment. Ability to: Communicate effectively in oral and written forms; maintain appropriate recordkeeping; utilize problem identification and resolution techniques; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and park users.

Education, experience and training: Any combination of education, coursework, experience, and training in recreation parks, mobile home parks, apartment or store management which would provide required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. At time of appointment, must possess an Oregon driver's license.


Work is performed with supervision from the park specialist. Employee uses initiative and judgment in completing routine assignments and interpretation of general administrative or operational policies and procedures is sometimes necessary. Significant deviations require prior approval. Work is checked at completion of projects. Does not work in proximity of supervisor.


Work is performed within established park policy and procedure, grounds and building maintenance reference materials, cleaning product reference materials and equipment manuals. Employee uses judgment in interpreting policy and procedures to determine appropriate procedure when dealing with park users.


Regular and consistent attendance is required.  Work is performed primarily in a park environment; may require bending, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, lifting up to 35 pounds, operating power tools and equipment, pulling, pushing, reaching standing and walking. Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometimes adverse weather conditions. A reasonable amount of driving is required.
