FOOD SERVICE WORKER

INTRODUCTION
The classification
has a focus on
providing
assistance at the
food concession
stands at various
events within the
Douglas County
Fairground
Complex.
This
classification is
a seasonal,
temporary, student
or part-time level
within the
department, and is
distinguished by
performing very
basic support
activities.
EXAMPLES OF
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties assigned
to this
classification
include, but are
not limited to,
the following
examples.)
l. Stock and
set up
concession
stands.
2. Assist in
preparing,
cooking and
serving food.
3. Assist
public and
other
employees in
answering
routine
questions and
providing
readily
available
information.
4. Wash pots,
pans, dishes,
grills,
counters,
equipment and
floors.
5. Provide
courier or
errand service
between
locations
within
complex.
6. Inventory
supplies
before and
after events.
7. May operate
a cash
register; make
change.
Perform
unskilled
laboring
tasks.
Knowledge/Ability:
Basic knowledge
of and skill in
making change;
Ability to:
Communicate
effectively in
oral form;
understand and
follow oral and
written
instructions; work
within approved
safety standards
of the department;
courteously meet
and deal
effectively with
other employees
and the public.
Education,
experience and
training: Any
combination of
coursework,
experience and/or
training which
provides required
knowledge, skills,
and abilities
necessary to
perform the duties
of the position.
Some positions
must possess a
valid Oregon
driver's license
at time of
appointment. A
Food Handler’s
Certificate must
be obtained within
30 days of hire.
Desirable
qualifications: Specific
knowledge or
experience related
to assigned
department or
program area;
experience working
with the public.
SUPERVISORY
CONTROLS OF THIS
POSITION
Work is performed
with immediate
supervision from a
clerical,
professional or
administrative
employee in
accordance with
established
guidelines or
procedures.
Assignments are
given with
specific
instructions or
are routine so
that few
deviations from
established
practices are made
without checking
with supervisor.
Work is routinely
reviewed for
accuracy and
completeness.
Supervisor is
typically in close
proximity for easy
reference.
GUIDELINES
Work is performed
within established
department policy
and procedures;
written and oral
guidelines and
instructions are
specific and
closely followed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
AND WORK
ENVIRONMENT
Regular and
consistent
attendance is
required. Work is
performed in
either an office
environment or in
the field; some
positions may
require bending,
hearing voice
conversation and
alarms,
keyboarding,
kneeling, lifting
up to 30 to 50
pounds, pulling,
pushing, reaching,
standing and
walking. Some
assignments
involve performing
work in an
environment
involving everyday
risks or
discomforts and
sometime adverse
weather conditions
requiring safety
precautions. Some
assignments may
require a small
amount of driving. |
