CUSTODIAN SUPERVISOR
Pay Range GC15
INTRODUCTION
This classification has supervisory responsibility for the custodial maintenance functions of county buildings; inventory and requisition supplies; direct visitors to appropriate meeting location; secure building.
EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties assigned to this classification include, but are not limited to, the following examples.)
l. Supervise custodial
maintenance support staff;
assign employees regular
or special project work
area; review daily
progress of work activity,
offer training assistance
if needed, and determine
best solution when
problems arise. Assumes
final accountability for
work performed within
unit. Is involved in
selecting, training, and
evaluating staff.
Interpret policy and
procedure. Participate in
work of custodial staff.
2. Participate in basic
cleaning of County
buildings which include:
clean, mop, strip, wax and
buff floors; shampoo
carpets; wash windows,
blinds, walls, ceilings;
clean and disinfect
restrooms, dust and clean
furniture; refill
supplies.
3. Assess custodial
maintenance needs of
county buildings and
coordinates special
projects to meet these
needs.
4. Inventory and
requisition supplies. Mix
cleaning solutions.
Establish and maintain
custodial maintenance
recordkeeping. Monitor
fiscal expenditures.
5. Direct visitors to
appropriate meeting
location. Secure building
at end of shift.
6. Represent custodial division to sales representatives and vendors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIRED BY THIS POSITION
Knowledge of: Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies used in custodial maintenance in an institution or on a large scale; considerable knowledge of value of new and obsolete custodial maintenance equipment. Ability to: Determine time and materials for a given project; supervise building custodial functions and support staff and to establish and direct approved work safety standards; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; make decisions independently in accordance with established policy and procedures, establish new policies when applicable, and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; courteously meet and deal effectively with employees and the public.
Education, experience and training: Four years progressively responsible work experience in custodial maintenance which includes one year supervisory/leadworker experience OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training. At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon drivers license.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OF THIS POSITION
Work is performed with supervision from a division or department head. Recurring routine assignments are independently performed by employee on basis of past experience. Employee estimates time and materials and manages time efficiently. Employee uses initiative and judgment in completing routine assignments and interpretation of general administrative or operational policies and procedures is sometimes necessary. Significant deviations require prior approval. Work is checked at completion of projects. Incumbents may or may not work in proximity of supervisor.
GUIDELINES
Work is performed within established department policy and procedures, custodial maintenance reference materials, manufacturer equipment manuals, instructions for supplies. Employee uses reasonable judgment in interpreting guidelines and contributes to modification of existing guidelines by recommending changes or adapting guidelines to problems encountered.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regular and consistent attendance is required. Work is performed in an inside setting which requires bending, hearing voice conversation, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing and walking. Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions. |
