CUSTODIAN

INTRODUCTION
This classification performs basic and routine cleaning duties related to custodial maintenance of county buildings; restock supplies; direct visitors to appropriate meeting location; secure offices after cleaned.
EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES
(Duties assigned to this classification include, but are not limited to, the following examples. Any one position may not perform all listed tasks.)
l. Perform basic cleaning
of county buildings which
includes: clean, mop,
strip, wax, and buff
floors; shampoo carpets;
wash windows, blinds,
walls, ceilings; clean and
disinfect restrooms; dust
and clean furniture;
refill supplies. Collect
trash and dispose.
2. Direct visitors to
appropriate meeting
location.
3. Inventory and restock
local supply areas.
4. Secure windows and doors in offices after cleaned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIRED BY THIS
POSITION
Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies used in custodial maintenance in an institution or on a large scale. Skill in: Operation of power cleaning equipment; use appropriate cleaning products. Ability to: Adjust to priority changes and work well under pressure; estimate time and materials and manage time efficiently; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and the public.
Education, experience and training: One year progressively responsible work experience in custodial maintenance in an institution or on a large scale OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OF THIS POSITION
Work is performed immediate supervision of a custodian supervisor. Work is performed in accordance with established guidelines or procedures. Assignments are given with specific instructions or are routine so that few deviations from established practices are made without checking with supervisor. Work is spot checked in progress or at completion. Employee must manage time efficiently. Supervisor is in close proximity for each reference.
GUIDELINES
Work is performed within established department policy and procedure, manufacturer equipment manuals, instructions for supplies which all provide instructions to complete assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regular and consistent attendance is required. Work is performed in an inside setting which requires bending, hearing voice conversation, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing and walking. Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions.
