National Day to prevent teen pregnancy (May 7, 2008) |
|
| May 7, 2008, is The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The Douglas County Healthy Teens Coalition would like to invite all media to join us in its effort to prevent teen pregnancy in Douglas County. Prevention efforts have helped to reduce teen pregnancy among 10-17 year old women in Douglas County from 17.8 pregnancies per 1,000 women in 1997 to 8.3 per 1,000 in 2007. The Healthy Teens Coalition is working to continue this downward trend through increased public awareness efforts and targeted education.
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy has developed a scenario-based online quiz that asks teens to think about what they would do in certain pressured situations. The Healthy Teens Coalition would like to encourage local teens to take the quiz. If possible, we would like an announcement to be published and recommend the following announcement: May 7, 2008, is the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Encourage your teens to take the online quiz at www.stayteen.org. We would like the announcement to run on May 6 and 7, 2008. Thank you for your assistance in raising awareness of local teen pregnancy in Douglas County. Visit the Campaign website for more information – www.teenpregnancy.org. |
