“National Nutrition Month” -- Support Meals On Wheels

On February 11, 2008, the Douglas County Senior Advisory Council launched its “Help Us Deliver” campaign to support the Meals on Wheels Program. We have begun to receive donations, but more is needed.

In honor of “National Nutrition Month,” the public is asked to donate to the “Meals-on-Wheels” program to ensure that meals continue to be delivered to frail elderly and homebound seniors.

Meals on Wheels are available to people over the age of 60 and their spouses who cannot get out much due to illness or advanced age. In 2007, Douglas County Meals on Wheels provided 118,000 meals to seniors. “The funds raised will help provide nutritionally balanced meals to some of Douglas County most vulnerable senior residents,” said Vic Nunenkamp, Senior and Disability Services Director.

Meals on Wheels and congregate dining sites are available in Glendale, Glide, Reedsport, Riddle, Sutherlin, Winston and Yoncalla areas. Meals on Wheels needs and relies on the help of the community to continue to provide service. Every donation, no matter the size, will help. Donations may be made payable to “Meals on Wheels,” Douglas County Senior Advisory Council 1224 N.E. Walnut Street #107 Roseburg, OR 97470. Call the Douglas County Meals on Wheels at 440-3677 if you have questions about how you can help.
