Bioterrorism & Public Health Preparedness

Bioterrorism is the intentional use of infectious agents, or germs, to cause illness. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has worked with state and local health departments to identify and to respond to bioterrorism and other public health threats for several years.

The County, in collaboration with state and federal health and public safety agencies, is actively engaged in bioterrorism surveillance, detection and other safety activities on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis.

If a bioterrorist event or public health health emergency were to occur, the public would be informed through the news media and the Douglas County Public Health website.
