The
Douglas County Perinatal Task Force was formed in 2008 to
address the problem of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use
among pregnant women.
The
Perinatal Task Force represents medical providers, drug
prevention and treatment providers, judicial system, mental
health providers, education, maternal and child health
providers, the faith community and others who are working to
improve the health of pregnant women and their children.
The Perinatal Task Force meets twice annually under the
guidance of Douglas County Public Health.
In
April 2009, Douglas County Public Health began
implementation of an integrated community health response to
substance use during pregnancy -- SART (Screening,
Assessing, Referring, and Treatment) for pregnant and
potentially pregnant women. SART was developed by the
Children’s Research Triangle in Chicago, Illinois.
Douglas County was chosen as one of the sites in Oregon to
to implement this program
