Youth Advisory Board

Since 1998, the Commission has had a Youth Advisory Board (YAB). Douglas County’s Youth Advisory Board offers youth representatives from fourteen school districts to have a voice in Douglas County decisions. The Youth Advisory Board has been actively involved in developing the process for encouraging school districts to participate in the Search Institute asset surveys and in conducting the surveys. The Youth Advisory Board also oversees the process for awarding youth mini-grants for ideas designed to build assets for Douglas County youth.

In 2003, the YAB merged with the Boys and Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley's Keystone Club. The overall goal of a Keystone Club is to create and maintain high standards of character and citizenship in order for teens to develop into responsible, productive adults. For example, a Keystone Club offers teens the opportunity to:

• develop and use leadership skills;
• contribute to the community through service and volunteerism; and,
• promote the 40 Development Assets.
